Friday, we went back to the Tulip Festival to again watch the Parade, because my cousin's daughters were going to marching with one of the bands. The day was not as nice as Thursday; it was overcast and threatening to rain. The parade had just finished when the dark clouds started to really roll in. We decided that we would go watch the Dutch Dozen perform and get in out of the threatening weather. The Dutch Dozen is a group of young men and women that performed Dutch songs and dances. We made it to the show about a half hour early. So, Zack and I decided to go to the little white store to get some poffertjes, a traditional Dutch dessert. They are like little pancakes brushed with rum butter sauce and dusted with powdered sugar. They were pretty good, but I think that if I had to choose between them and a funnel cake that the funnel cake would win out! :) After getting our Dutch inspired treat, we headed back to the theater to watch the Dutch Dozen perform. It was an entertaining show and we enjoyed hearing the dutch songs and watching the dances...well, at least I did...that sort of thing is not really Zack's cup of tea.
After the Dutch Dozen, we headed over to the Author's Corner and went to see one of my mom's cousins who is an Author, Jim Heynen. He has written several books. My mom and Aunt both bought one of his newest books, which he signed for them. There were quite a few authors present and there was a good mix of fiction vs nonfiction and children's stories vs adult. We spent quite a bit of time there talking with the different authors. I was really pretty impressed with Kari Kay, a young woman who recently wrote and published a children's book called "Floppy Cat". It is kinda remeniscent of a Dr. Seuss book in that it rhymes and unlike a lot of children's books today, this story has a take away message that goes with it.
After spending time at the Tulip Festival again for the majority of the day, we headed back to my Aunt and Uncles for dinner. My Aunt had made a wonderful spinach and chicken lasagna and homemade garlic bread. My Grandfather came over for dinner and to watch a power point of some old family slides.
Zack, My Dad and I ended up driving back into town to register for a road race the following day. We just BARELY made it in time...After signing up for the race, we stayed and listened to Remedy Drive (a Christian Rock Band made up of four very talented brothers from Lincoln Nebraska) for a little while, until Zack and I got to cold and followed my dad back to the car ( Dad isn't into the rock music scene:) lol). We had planned on watching a movie that night, but with the race early the next morning, we decided to go to bed early!
