This year for the 4th of July, Zack and I headed to the lake with some of his family. Zack's Aunt Shirley, Uncle Chuck and their girls Whitney and Kelsey were planning to take their Jet skis to the lake and they invited us along. So, Zack and I along with Matt and his best friend Nate (basically the 4th brother) went up to the Lake with them. Zack's parents came up for the day on both Saturday and Monday.
We had a GREAT time! It was so much fun getting to hang out with family and we had a blast on the jet skis out on the lake!
Zack and I didn't make it up to the lake until mid afternoon Saturday, because Zack had a mandatory frisbee practice. So, we got up early Saturday morning and drove the hour to his practice...I went to target and B&N while they were practicing...that way I got out of the heat. Zack FINALLY finished practice around 11:30 about an hour later than expected....and we grabbed some lunch at chic-fil-a and headed up to the lake. When we got there, Uncle Chuck, Aunt Shirley, Matt, Nate, and Whitney were heading to put the jet skis into the lake.
We ran and unpacked our stuff and changed clothes and met them down by the lake. We spent a few hours out on the lake and then headed to Gumlog, a family favorite restaurant for an early dinner before Zack's parents headed home. Gumlog has great BBQ, but they also have good sea food. We planned on getting BBQ to go for a meal later in the weekend so most people got some form of sea food...as I am not a sea food fan, I opted for the grilled chicken which was also pretty good.
After dinner, Whitney and I and Kelsey and Zack's mom headed back out on the lake on the jet skis for a little more fun. Whitney and I were a good match on the Jet Ski....we both like to go fast. We took turns driving....and I really enjoyed getting to spend some time with Whitney. Some how we lost Kelsey and Mama Sandy....we started to head back when we spotted Uncle Chuck and Kelsey. So we spent a few more minutes out on the lake flying through the wake and throwing donuts. It was a lot of fun and much less busy than it had been during the day.
Matt had brought his Wii and Zack had brought his Mario brothers game...it was a BIG hit. Kelsey wanted to play it all weekend...and by the end of the weekend, she was getting pretty good.
Sunday morning we had a big breakfast. Aunt Shirley had made a sausage roll which is one of Zack's all time favorite things to eat and he doesn't get them at home. I had made some quiche and frozen them. They were a new recipe and I was not sure how they would turn out...especially since the recipe said to freeze them before cooking them and some of the egg and milk had come out during the freezing process. They ended up being pretty good. Aunt Shirley just made one of them Sunday a.m. I had also made hashbrown casserole and we had lots of fruit. So, after a full breakfast, we got ready for another day on the lake. Zack and Uncle Chuck went to go get some more gas and ...unknown to us....to the auto parts store. Aunt Shirley was concerned that the truck that they took, which had been acting up, had died on them. So, she left in another car in search of them....so, we decided to eat some lunch while we waited.
They shortly returned and we headed back out onto the lake. We did some tubing....and Zack, Matt, and Nate had a competition to see who could use a hand held jet propeller to go down the deepest in the water in the cove we were in. They were measuring distance with a rope. Those boys can make a competition or game out of anything. Zack, Kelsey, Aunt Shirley, and Whitney went out to go tubing. They were gone for a while. So, Matt, Nate and I went out to look for them. We passed them being towed back by a boat as we left the cove. Apparently, they had flipped their jet ski and some how due to either water or gas flooding the engine, it wouldn't start. Once we saw they were safe, we headed out to spend some time on the lake. Nate finally stopped and was trying to ask us what we wanted to do, go back or ride some more....as he was asking us, the jet ski started to tip...and it tipped a little more and the next thing we knew, we were all in the water laughing and the jet ski was upside down in the water. We had it turned over again in about 15 seconds and we all climbed back on. Thankfully, ours started again and we headed back to the cove. Uncle Chuck ended up taking them both out of the water to let the water drain out of them and he got them both back in the lake and running.
Sunday night, we had BBQ for dinner and then played a game of Quelf...which as always was VERY entertaining. Zack ended up winning.
Monday morning, we got up early and headed down to the lake because Matt and Zack wanted to try the knee board, but wanted to be on the lake before there were too many boats out there kicking up wakes. Both Zack and Matt got there turn on the knee board. They both did great. Matt got a few more turns than Zack and eventually even he was too tired to hold on anymore and we pulled the knee board up onto the jetski and Matt climbed on the back. We didn't realize how long we had been gone, but we met Zack's Dad and Uncle out looking for us on our way back.
We headed into the cove and grabbed some breakfast and then went back down to the lake. Zack and I went out on the Jet ski to meet up with one of our friends that was up at the lake as well and who had seen us out on the lake in the morning. Zack surprisingly let me drive...although he likes to pretend that it scares him out of his mind. I think that he secretly enjoys the speed with which I drive. We rode Jetskis and played in the lake most of the day.
But he is brave enough to head out on the water anyway.
Zack and I had to leave at about 4:30 (ended up leaving closer to 5:30) so that we could make it back in time for our small group. We packed up quickley ate some hamburgers, said our goodbyes and headed out. We were about an hour late for small group, but they forgave us.
We had a great weekend and we are so thankful that Zack's Aunt and Uncle invited us to hang out with them! Thank you so much for everything Uncle Chuck and Aunt Shirley!
