Zack and I were watching Mythbusters tonight and they were trying to determine which was better, sneezing into your hand, your elbow, or a handkerchief. You'll be happy to know that it was the elbow!

Anyway, this was really disturbing to me and it reminded me of a video I had seen a couple years ago about sneezing, which was really funny. So, I thought that I would search YouTube for it. I, of course did not find it, but I did stumble onto some pretty interesting videos about hand washing...I wish that we would play one or two of these at work...maybe it would encourage our little patient's to wash their hands.

I am thinking that there must have been a competition, because you would be surprised at just how many of these videos I found! Anyway, I hope that ya'll get a laugh out of these little videos.


This first video is kinda long, but I thought that it was really creative and kinda cool to watch.

a little comfort food at the puddle.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but one of the things that I think of when thinking about comfort food is Chicken Pot Pie...There is just something so wonderful about a steaming savory pie that brings to mind days of snuggling under a blanket by a fire with either a good book or a good movie.

Zack has never eaten Chicken Pot Pie mainly because of a small round green veggie...He CANNOT stand peas, and he is not a big veggie eater anyway. so, I have never made chicken pot pie for that reason.

Dr. D got me a subscription to Southern Living for Christmas. There was a picture of a beautiful and delicious looking chicken pot pie on the cover of one of the recent issues. As I was looking through the recipe section, I saw the chicken pot pie recipe. The picture just looked so yummy that I decided to glance through the recipe to see how many offending veggies it might contain. As I perused the ingredient list, I was amazed that the only veggie in it that Zack wouldn't eat was carrots and he will occasionally eat these if they are in a soup or salad and are in small pieces.

So, I told Zack that we were going to have Chicken Pot Pie for dinner in the next few days and he was...well, he was less than enthusiastic!

Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to make our Chicken pot pie. Zack got home from working out and looked a little skeptical when I told him about dinner. He looked though the recipe himself, I guess just to verify that there were indeed no offending ingredients....I have been known to sneak one or two in under his radar...satisfied that there were no illegal veggies to be found, he went and did something else while we waited for the pie to finish cooking.



While my Chicken Pot Pie did not look as picture perfect as the one on the cover of Southern Living, it was really good. Zack even liked it and went back for seconds! It's a miracle...or maybe Zack is just becoming more adventurous in his old age!!

The Super Bowl

Every year, Our Church has a big Super bowl party complete with unhealthy food options and big screen TV's. Zack and I really don't care about either the Steeler's or Greenbay, but we decided to go watch the game. 1. because we had ZERO food at home to eat, and 2. for the fellowship. I don't think that I saw a single play of he game, but I enjoyed getting to talk with friends.

Zack decided to wear his Falcon's shirt in honor of his fallen team. I think that he was glad that Greenbay...because if someone beats your team, you want them to win it all....or something like that. I thought that it was funny that Zack was wearing his falcons shirt, so I got a quick picture of him.

Foraging

In a couple of weekends, a friend of a friend is putting on a special fundraiser dinner for Project 127. Project 127 (based off of James 1:27) is a movement to have the church take responsibility for foster care in our community. It is headed up by an organization called FaithBridge, who has partnered with several churches in our community to help make this a reality. Our county has the 4th highest need for foster parents in our state...that is a daunting thought. If you have never heard of FaithBridge and you would like to learn more about them you can go here.

Zack and I do not feel called at this time to be Foster Parents, but we feel that this is a huge need in our community. These children are taken from bad home situations and deserve to be placed in a home where they can have security, love and a Christ-centered environment for however long they must be away from their families. So, when Skye asked me to help her with the table decorations, I was really excited. I love to do that kind of stuff and with working with Skye on this I would be able to help to raise money for what I think is a really good cause.

I have other obligations on the day of the dinner, but I have been trying to help her out with collecting supplies and Zack and I have been trying to figure out ways to work it out so that I can be there to help set up for the dinner...we will see how that works out.

Anyway, last Sunday, Skye called me up and asked me to come help her collect some supplies. Because it is a Valentine's dinner, she wanted to go with an appropriate theme, but she did not have a big budget. So, we were trying to incorporate mainly elements that we could get from nature. Skye's inspiration was a verse from Song of Songs that says " she is a lily among thorns..."

We met at our assigned location with tools in hand, and went to collect our table decor. We were collecting moss, branches, and briers. Skye has shown me some drawings of her vision, and I think that the table centerpieces will turn pretty cool...hopefully she will get it all done on time.

We had a good time gathering the things we needed. We filled 2 buckets with moss and filled the trunk with a mixture of brambles and branches...I'm not sure if we collected enough or if Skye will have to go out again for more of nature's bounty, but either way, we shouldn't have trouble finding what we need.

Skye is going to pair the supplies that we collected with flowers, vases, and possibly some candles. It should make for a earthy feel.

There will be bluegrass music so that will fit well with a more earthy feel! Looking forward to seeing it all come together.

Girl's night

Last Saturday, the girls in our small group decided to get together and have dinner together. Most of us were able to go, but we missed the few that couldn't make it. It was nice to have the opportunity to get together as girls and laugh and talk. I have been blessed with godly women to surround myself with throughout the different stages of my life. All of these women (from each stage) are very dear to me. I really appreciate the girls in my small group and am blessed to call them friends. I enjoyed our dinner!

Because every girl deserves to be well dressed

My Dear friend Beth asked me to make a little Minnie mouse shirt for her precious daughter to wear when they go to Disney world later this month. She told me that I could pick the color scheme and have free creative license. Her only requests were a Minnie Mouse and her child's name. So, I headed out to the only fabric store here in town to have a look around. I found some fabric that I LOVED!!


I bought a yard of the fabric and then got to work...I haven't made any clothes recently. So, when Beth asked for the shirt the only logical thing that came to my mind was that Kate had to have some coordinating pants to go along with it


...and then, of course, there was still some fabric left. So, I might as well make a coordinating skirt for those days that our sweet girl feels a little more girly


...and then since there was still some fabric left, it only made sense that she really NEEDED a cute pillowcase dress to go along with it.


The fabric was just so summery and cute I just got overtaken by the need to create! ha!

The collection is called summer love'n...ok, not really cause I don't usually "name" the things that I make. Anyway, all of the pieces coordinate. So, Kate can wear her Disney shirt with jeans or pants or a skirt. The pillowcase dress can be worn alone or with jeans or the pants...it's like 4 or 5 outfits all together! Hopefully Beth will love the fabric as much as I did....cause she is going to be seeing a lot of it!

Now I just have to get it in the mail to Beth so she has it in time for their trip!!
