So long insecurity

So long insecurity....

2 weeks ago I went to a Beth Moore simulcast with Mama Sandy and some ladies from her church. The simulcast was called So long insecurity you have been a bad friend to us. I have been meaning to write a blog post about it since the day that I went, but I have been thinking over all that was said at the event.

I am still ruminating on it, but I thought that you might enjoy some of the highlights.

Beth was very passionate about this topic as it is something that really affects women of all ages and holds us captive in our sin.

Here are a few things that I took away from the day. My notes, Beth's words

Insecurity is not a weakness, it is unbelief.
We don't believe that we are who He says we are.

There are 6 statements that describe a secure woman.
Beth cleverly used the acronym SECURE for these points.

A secure woman is:

1. Saved from herself.

We often are our own worst enemy. The human mind is twisted by idolatrous self interest. When we are filled with God, everything is focus up and out rather than toward ourselves. Allowing us to think less often of ourselves.

2. Entitled to truth.

We are driven by the belief of a lie that causes sinful desires. If I could just .... then I would be secure.
Perfectionism is insecurity in an artform.
The last thing that the enemy wants is for you to know the Truth.

3. Clothed with intention

A woman dresses on purpose.
Proverbs 31:25 She is clothed in strength and dignity and she can laugh at the things to come.
It begins in our thought life. It lives in our feet and when we live it out, it goes to our heart.

4. Upended by grace

Grace turns everything upside down. Forgiveness depends on how forgiven we feel. How much more likely would you be to forgive someone if you felt forgiven. Is your past truly in the past? Guilt is the most powerful tool for keeping us in our insecurity. It does not honor God to disbelieve His forgiveness. Receive it!
Unforgiveness is a giant tapeworm that is eating us alive.

5. Rebounded by love.

If a heart does not heal, it hardens. If you don't allow God to tend to you, you heart will grow callus. To be secure, we need to know that there is someone who loves us unfailingly and who cannot be run off. We need to learn to love others without needed them to love us back and that takes knowing God loves us completely.

6. Exceptional in life.

We all have a need of significance. We need to know that we are special. If you live a secure life you will stick out in this culture.

I had a great time at the conference and took a lot away from it...and I have lots to ponder over.

It's been a while...

It's been a while since I made dinner for Zack and I. Sometimes I just get SO tired of convenience dinners (frozen dinners, fast food, etc). So, tonight, I decided to try a new recipe. We had Peach Chicken, Butter, Parmesan Pasta, and salad. I wasn't sure what Peach chicken would taste like, but it turned out to have pretty good flavor and both Zack and I liked it! It was nice to have something home cooked after a couple weeks of not cooking.

Game night at the puddle.

Monday night because so many people were going to be gone, we called small group off. A couple of people had already arranged babysitting for the night. So, Zack and I decided to have the people that were still in town and could come over to play games. We introduced Brandon and Gina to Settlers of Catan. They both caught on really fast and we had a great time. I somehow snuck a win out in the end....that really never happens. So, I was pretty proud of myself!

We had a great time hanging out and playing games, but we sure missed the rest of the couples from our small group. I am looking forward to having everyone together again!!

A baby Shower for Grayson.

Sunday, we went to a baby shower to celebrate the upcoming birth of Heather and Andrews little boy Grayson. It was a lot of fun to be able to get together with close family friends to encourage and bless Heather and Andrew as they prepare for this new stage in their lives. I did not get a chance to make them anything for the baby (I barely got the poodle skirts done in time and I couldn't decide what to make!). So, on Saturday, I went shopping with Mama Sandy and Rach. I ended up getting them a gift card so that they could get something that they really needed for their precious little boy! We cannot wait to meet the little guy. He is going to be born into a loving and godly family! ...and he will have lots of extended "family" that loves him very much!

Boys, they never grow up...

Every year for Easter, the Easter Bunny leaves us an Easter basket at Zack's Parent's house. This year the Easter Bunny gave us Nerf guns in our baskets. So, this week when we headed back to Zack's parent's house, we packed our Nerf guns along. Zack, his brothers, father and Nate all pulled out their Nerf arsenal and went to battle. They split into teams and they played for HOURS! They had a blast! They had just finished playing when Mama Sandy, Rach and I got back from shopping for baby shower gifts for the next day.

We also celebrated my father in laws birthday this weekend...I guess it's true that guys never really grow up.

Rock'n and a roll'n at the hop

Last friday night, I went and picked Zack up from a MARTA station and we headed down to a Sock Hop that some family friends put on every year to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma. This is the first year that Zack and I have gotten to go. I had been planning to make poodle skirt for Mama Sandy, Rachel and I to wear, but for some reason or another I had not gotten around to it. So, Thursday after work, I headed over to Hancock fabrics and got fabric to make the skirts and then went home and started on them. I had gotten 3 coordinating colors so that Mama Sandy, Rach and I would look cute in pictures together. I was sewing...and sewing...and sewing...I finally finished the skirts around 2 oclock in the morning on Friday morning. I did not have time to make the pettiskirts to go under them, but hey, a skirt is a skirt.

Needless to say, I was a little tired at work on Friday, and we were SLAMMED! It was a busy day...which most Fridays are. I had to leave work by 6 in order to make it down to the MARTA station in time to pick up my man...who I had not seem all week since he was at a conference in California. I was trying to get as many notes finished as I could before I had to hit the road. (thankfully I had packed the car before I left that morning so I could leave straight from work). Dr. D and Lisa (our new NP who is job sharing with me) we supposed to be on call Friday night...so, I was a little distressed when I started getting pages from the paging service. I called them back to let them know that I was not on call and that Lisa was...there was a lot of calling back and form...you gave us the wrong number,... oh, no wait you didn't...she is not responding...Lisa eventually called me back and it turned out that she had switched call with another girl in the office because she and her family were going to the beach....so it was a disaster. By this time it was 6 and I needed to hit the road so I let Dr. D know what was happening as I walked out the door and she told me not to worry about it. I was heading down the interstate when I got a text stating that no one was responding and would I please call...I called Dr. D to find out what was going on. There was no way that I could answer calls as I sped down the interstate to get Zack. Dr. D said not to worry that she had gotten the text too and had taken care of it....ugh! I hate that! I felt so bad, but I was relieved that I didn't have to worry about answering mommy calls while I was driving or while we were spending time with family and friends.

I sucessfully found the MARTA station that I was suppsed to meet Zack at...the only problem is that he wasn't there yet. So, I thought that I would go spend some time at the little library that I had passed on my way and wait until he got there. No such luck however, the library closed at 5 on Fridays...so, I sat in the library parking lot until Zack got closer. I then ended up going into every parking lot except the one where Zack actually was. I even accidentally went down a busses only enterance. Ugh! I was getting so frustrated. Finally Zack found me and I made him drive the rest of the way to the Sock Hop.

Zack and I got to the sock hop a couple hours after it started so all of our friends and family were already there. I carried in the poodle skirts and Mama Sandy, Rach and I changed in the Bathroom. Thankfully, the skirts fit and I thought that we all looked pretty cute in our skirts.

Zack and I were grateful that we made it to the Sock Hop in time to see the special entertainment. Zack's dad and some of his buddies all got together and provided a few minutes of laughs and entertainment. They were the retirement village people. They all came into the room in hospital gowns with walkers or canes and then as they got on stage pulled off the gowns to reveal their costumes. It was really funny to watch them up there dancing around to village people songs.

Best Buds

There was a silent auction to raise money for the charity and Zack bid on a couple of items. We won a night at Midevil Times (dinner and a show) and a gift card for O charly's (we do not have one in our little town.) Zack was so proud of his wins and I am sure that we will have a good time using them.

They are finally here!!

Zack and I have been in the market for a new washer and dryer for a while now and we finally broke down and bought them. We have gone and looked at them a couple of times and Zack has been watching prices. Our old Washer and Dryer were a gift to us from Zack's parent's when we got married and they were a sturdy set of used appliances. They have served us well, but as with anything, they had started to loose some of their functions as they aged. I was having to jam a hanger into the washer and jiggle it around to make sure that the washer would work. The sensor that let it know that the door was closed had stopped working. So, I am really excited about our new washer and dryer...and Zack even said that they made him want to wash clothes! WOO HOO if that is true, they were worth every penny!
