Roma Ultima: Huckfest, Decatur, AL

This past weekend, Zack's Ultimate Frisbee team played a Frisbee tournament in Decatur, Alabama. This was Zack's second tournament this year and he was really looking forward to it. We played at this tournament last year and it is probably the nicest complex of any of the tournaments that we have been at. They have tents, bleachers and coolers of water set up at all of the fields. The fields have the manicured look of a golf green.

We drove to Alabama on Friday night and spent the night with my brother who lives close to the tournament. This was the first time that we have had the opportunity to see his apartment and it was nice to get to spend some time with him.

We had to get to bed pretty early Friday night, because we still had a good little drive to the fields in the morning and Zack was supposed to be getting there about an hour and a half before his first game started so that he could warm up.

There were a LOT of new faces at this tournament. About 1/2 of the guys on our team were guys that I had never met or only met once.

We started our day out playing Infinity, a team out of Murfreesboro, TN. We ended up beating them by several points.

We then played Duel. A team from, I think, Atlanta. We have played them several times before and we have beaten them. However, this time we end in a heartbreaking game point loss in hard cap.

Our Third Game on Saturday was against a team from Memphis, TN. They were creatively called Memphis. We should have beaten them by more than we did, but we did beat them pretty handily.

Our last game on Saturday was against a team from Searcy, Arkansas called 4 horsemen.

After the games, we headed back to Pete's apartment to clean up and head out for dinner. Pete graciously treated us to a delicious dinner at Macaroni Grill. Pete had some kind of Chicken Marsala, Zack Had some kind of shrimp dish, and I had my favorite, Eggplant Parmesan. Their Eggplant Parmesan was really good, but I think that Olive Garden's is still my favorite.

After dinner we went to Smoothie King for dessert and to try to reenergize Zack's worn out muscles.

Armed with our smoothies, we ran to Kroger so Pete could grab some groceries and then the headed back to his apartment. we ended up watching "How to train your Dragon", which Zack had never seen. Shortly after the movie ended, we headed to bed. We were supposed to get to the fields about 30 min earlier on Sunday.

Our first game on Sunday was against a team called 3 dollar bill. I have no Idea where they were from, but we ended up beating them and moving on in the brackets.

Our second game of the day was against a team called Ironman out of Birmingham, AL. They are a really good team and were seeded #1 at the tournament. We played much better against them than any of the other teams that had faced them over the tournament. We ended up loosing 15-9.

We would have played a 3rd game to determine 3rd place, but the other team forfeited the game.

I thought that for a team made up of so many people that had not played together, that we did really well.

I was REALLY proud of Zack. He has been a little discouraged about his playing for the last few weeks, he has been working hard to try to improve his throwing. I thought that he played really well this past weekend. Way to go Babe!!

After the tournament was over we headed back to Pete's. We packed up, showed Pete some pictures from our recent vacation, and then we went to a Mexican Restaurant in town for dinner before heading home. After dinner, Zack and I said our goodbyes to Pete and made the journey home.

Pete, thank you so much for letting us stay at your place! We really enjoyed getting to spend some time with you. Love you!
